About

At Washington Hebrew Congregation’s Rabbi Joseph Weinberg Early Childhood Center (RJWECC), children are encouraged to be creative and curious. We view your child as capable, competent, and full of wonder. Our teachers, assistants, specialists, clergy, and administration believe that learning is a process of construction, growth, and reflection. We intentionally plan experiences and lessons to inspire ideas, spark questions, and set the stage for positive interactions. Jewish ethical values help provide a foundation from which we strive to nurture, support, and create connections with our children, families, professional staff, and community. Our inquiry-based educational approach, which integrates a Judaic and secular curriculum, embraces the very best of developmentally appropriate practice. A WELCOMING CLASSROOM Our welcoming classrooms have learning areas for block play, dramatic play, math, science, language and literacy, and motor skills. AN ENGAGING CAMPUS Our outstanding campus includes five outdoor playgrounds, a computer lab, a media center, and dedicated space for science and art programming. EXPERIENCE-DRIVEN Our days are filled with both teacher-led and child-initiated activities. The teachers spend time helping children communicate with each other, negotiate problems, ask questions, value their own ideas, and discover the joy of learning. Both our oldest and younger daughters have been students at Washington Hebrew ECC’s on both campuses since mid year 2’s and up thru PreK. Our children have thrived in this school community. The play-based model is a wonderful way to encourage independent thinking and problem solving. The Jewish traditions are a wonderful way to create community in the classroom. Especially during the pandemic, WHC was able to provide personalized attention and education virtually and in-person. We are so grateful to the wonderful teachers there. They’ve helped our kids learn, grow and expand their understanding of the world around them in a safe and caring environment!

Our kids have loved being at Washington Hebrew the past two years. The teachers and administrators take safety seriously and maintain a warm and welcoming environment for all kids. We have also appreciated their creativity with various lessons and school events. We highly recommend Washington Hebrew ECC!

Our child has had an AMAZING experience at Washington Hebrew. She's attended at both their locations and has gone to Camp Keetov in the summer as well. The teachers are WONDERFUL and our kiddo adores them. We get very frequent photos and written updates with details on what they're doing at school, including the planned activities and the others that the kids come up with on the fly, which the teachers always encourage so that the kids are involved in designing their own educations. They spend lots of time outside, and lots of time learning how to play together. They also give very detailed evaluations of how the kids are doing at parent-teacher conference time. And during the pandemic they've been extremely cautious and we always felt very safe there. Thanks to them our kiddo is totally comfortable wearing masks. Our child is about to graduate to kindergarten, but we'd stay at Washington Hebrew longer if we could!
