Learning Environment:
Gunners Lake Little Schoolhouse offers a play-based teaching philosophy that helps children build motor skills, social skills, and manners. They use a specific early childhood education curriculum that they purchased, which offers a rich balance of educational worksheets, projects, and crafts.
Their curriculum also includes infant/early stage learning that outlines stretching, reading, sensory activities, and motor skills. The program is development and skill-based with skill assessments conducted throughout the year, and the owner teaches children the American Sign Language.
Gunners Lake Little Schoolhouse is a small daycare with no more than eight kids and two caregivers who use redirection as a discipline method. Reading and writing as well as math and science are part of the daily curriculum. Besides the previously mentioned subjects, the program offers dance and music.
Weather-permitting, children get two hours of daily outdoor activity in the spacious backyard and playground. In the summer, children over two years old go on weekly excursions.
Teachers:
The lead teacher since 2004 and owner is a mom of two. She is a native Serbo-Croatian speaker. Her assistant has 5 years of experience and a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. All staff is certified in First Aid/CPR/SIDS, as well as MAT trained and can administer over-the-counter and prescription medication.
They are friendly, loving, responsible, and very family-oriented. They love working with kids! Their ultimate goal is to provide the children with a clean, safe and comfortable environment where they can play and learn with guidance and loving care while you are at work.
Program & Facility:
Gunners Lake Little Schoolhouse has been open since 2004, operating out of a smoke-free home. Open year-round from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (Monday-Friday), the program has an open door policy and encourages parents to stop by at any time.
If desired by the parents, can serve food brought from home. They work with parents to get a consistent sleep schedule, as well as help them with picky eaters or children that may have allergies. They also encourage nursing mothers to bring breast milk for their babies. They always emphasize to parents that they are a team and that an early age consistency is very important.
Gunners Lake Little Schoolhouse has a standard vacation and sick policy. If a child is sick with 101 fever or loose bowels, he/she must be picked up and be symptom free for 24 hours before returning to daycare.
Conveniently located a few miles from I-270 and close to a bus stop, this family child care and preschool program accepts children as young as 3 weeks through 5 years old. S. Christa McAuliffe Elementary School is located nearby. The indoor facilities are rather cozy, but there's a large outdoor space that includes a playground.
Safety:
At this daycare, they always practice healthy habits to make sure kids are safe at all times. They check kids' temperature at the door and wash their hands before entering the facility, and parents must take off their shoes at the door. They also sanitize toys everyday.
