About Me
Dear parents, thank you for visiting Gunston Children's House, my home daycare in Lorton.
I’m the owner of this family child care program, and the main caregiver and teacher. I have 18 years of child care experience, including 5 years running my very own daycare. I’m also a mother of 3 (my kids are now all grown), so I have plenty of experience with young children! I’m not only CPR and first aid certified, but I also used to be a medical assistant so you can be sure that your little one will be safe with me.

My Daycare
Gunston Children's House is small family child care and preschool program. I offer full-time and part-time daycare for infants as young as 4 weeks, as well as toddlers and preschoolers up to 4 years old. My hours of operation are Monday through Friday, between 6:30am to 6:00pm. Snacks are included in the tuition and include healthy and nutrition food such as fresh fruit, cereals, granola, cheese, juice, and more (we run a peanut-free and treenut-free daycare.)
I have a well-furnished daycare with beautiful wall paintings and wall decors like educational charts. My space is organized with shelves and drawers for small toys and blocks. I also have large bouncers, playsets, and a dollhouse for toddlers. To prevent the spread of any type of disease caused by germs and viruses, I always clean the toys and chairs and wash our hands in between activities. I also do a deep clean at the end of the week.
Curriculum
I use a play-based teaching philosophy because I believe that young minds learn through play. I am committed to offering a safe and nurturing environment for your child to learn and grow.
Daily activities include circle time, story time, arts and crafts, coloring, counting, quiet/rest time, and of course, lots of indoor and outdoor play! With infants, we sing songs, read books, and work on tummy time. When children are three years old and up we work on art projects. Children explore interests on their own and with each other, and early learning activities are tailored to each child.
We use a number of age appropriate educational tools such as markers and pencils to develop fine motor skills (coloring, drawing lines) and books for language development (listening, reading, writing, articulating sounds and words, identifying letters, etc.) In addition to English, I also speak Arabic and Amharic and can expose your child to a foreign language if you’d like. We also teach math concepts (for instance, we use block blocks to learn shapes and spatial relations) and focus on social and emotional development.
