About

Our congregation was started in the mid 1920s by Pastor Henry Schmidt. Our first church building was a simple Mission-style white stucco building located where the present church now stands. Following World War II, North Hollywood began a radical transformation and St. Paul's with it. Under the guidance of Pastor Alvin Wagner (whom our Wagner Hall is named after), St. Paul's grew significantly in membership. Our school was added in 1946 and the present Gothic style church was built in 1954. In the 1990's, we opened a preschool in addition to the gradeschool. Throughout periods of prosperity and recession, peace and war, transformation and stability, St. Paul's First Lutheran Church has remained committed to the mission that Jesus gave to his followers, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
