About

Community Preschool at Lakewood is high quality, fun, a 5-star local preschool located close to downtown Durham and Duke University West Campus in the Lakewood shopping complex. Many of our teachers have been with us for 10+ years and we love our families! Call or come visit us for a tour if you live in the local area. We'd love to show you all the fun things we do at our school! Community Preschool utilizes The Creative Curriculum, a North Carolina Division of Child Development and Early Education approved and developmentally appropriate curriculum. This provides young children with an educational curriculum that focuses on the use of meaningful, hands-on, concrete activities. Teachers are facilitators, allowing children to make choices and to learn from their interactions with their environment. The classroom environment is designed to encourage children to freely play, explore, experiment, and create. By using developmentally appropriate toys and games, while emphasizing an integrated curriculum, children are able to expand their cognitive development successfully. Providing an early childhood program that focuses on the emotional and social development of young children is also important. Children spend a great deal of time interacting with adults and other children. These relationships strongly influence a child's emotional and social development. Children must have a loving and nurturing teacher, and an environment designed to offer security, comfort, and a sense of belonging. As they develop further, children become more capable of choosing and performing tasks and activities for themselves; thus developing a sense of responsibility, self-confidence, and autonomy. Research tells us that these are the qualities that are needed for optimal development and readiness for success in school.

This center was so great with my first child that I have enrolled my infant twins there too.
