Apple Seeds Daycare has created a curriculum that is flexible and responds to the needs and interests of children in our care. We use elements of Montessori because we feel it fosters independence and confidence in children. Children need a sense of belonging, and they get it by participating in the routines of everyday life. "Do it by myself" is the theme of an emerging preschooler. We find ways for your child to participate in meal preparation, cleaning-up, gardening, caring for clothes, nap mats, and toys. Providing opportunities for independence is the best way to build your child's self-esteem. Children feel empowered when they realize they have the intelligence and ability to do things for themselves. Learning from modeled behavior is the beauty of a mixed age group classroom. The older children model their skills for the younger students. This builds confidence, patience, and pride in the older toddler. Young toddlers look up to the older students and try to recreate their skills and independence.
