I contacted the daycare director via phone and arranged to "tour" and interview the next day. It was a clean, organized, small home daycare center over her garage with access to a standard backyard Costco play set in the backyard. We were looking for short-term, part-time care for my preschooler and I found her info online via the county website. When talking on the phone, she increased the rate posted on the webpage stating that they no longer do part-time rates and have increased the full time rate. I toured, asked for a packet, told her the details of our care needs, asked if it was okay that he start may 8th and inquired about the deposit/registration fee referred to in the packet. She told me not to worry about it. I then said I would contact her next week to bring a check for the care and submit the packet, as well as bring my son for a meet and great. I contacted her a little over a week later (Weds before the Monday he would begin to start). She informed me that she decided it would only work for her if I paid for the whole 2 months (9 weeks) even though he'd only be there for 7 (and only be there part time at that!) and pay a registration fee. I would have been totally understanding if she had communicated this at the tour but instead she had waited until right before we were going to start. She said it was my fault because she wasn't even sure I was really going to enroll (despite saying specifically that I was, confirming when I would be contacting her next, giving her a start date, and then doing exactly what I said I would.). The young classroom teachers seemed nice and I felt like it would have been fine for our needs but the communication deficit, dishonesty, and unprofessionalism of the director/owner is really not acceptable. Parents beware!
