About Us:
I’m the owner and director of this high-quality child care and early childhood education program. I run my daycare with my assistant and we each have 20 years of professional experience. We both hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, we’re CPR and First-aid certified, as well as MAT trained so you can be sure that your kids are safe under our care.
Program:
Florida Ave Schoolhouse is open all year from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. We offer full-time, part-time, and drop-in care for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers between the age of 6 weeks and 4 years old, including children with special needs. Our daycare provides lunch and snacks to all kids attending our program and these are all included in the tuition. To prevent possible allergies, we run a peanut and tree-free environment.
Philosophy:
We understand that each family’s child care needs are important, which is why our team is dedicated to working with you to meet your expectations. Our team strives to create a warm and welcoming environment where children can learn and grow. Our program is based on Christian principles and beliefs, and we help our little students to be lifelong learners and reach their full potential in all aspects.
Curriculum:
Florida Ave Schoolhouse introduces children to different languages such as Spanish as well as American Sign Language in addition to English. Our curriculum is tailored to each child’s unique needs and developmental stage: Infants: We engage babies in various activities that stimulate their minds, senses, self-awareness, and hand-eye coordination. At this stage, we also practice tummy time and we provide them a rich learning environment where they can improve their gross motor skills. Toddlers: Our dedicated and hands-on teachers encourage toddlers to participate in different activities that promote social development and foster self-confidence. We also introduce them to books and words, which is a great way for them to appreciate reading. Overall, we promote socio-emotional, physical, and intellectual development at this stage. Preschoolers: Our main goal is not only to make them ready for kindergarten and school, but also to make sure that they are above level. We expose them to educational yet fun activities to improve their math skills like working with manipulatives. At this age, we also work on letters and words to improve their writing skills. Our curriculum is age-appropriate with lots of activities that your little one will surely enjoy, such as phonics and reading, numbers and letters, arts & crafts, music, writing, and of course, lots of indoor and outdoor playtime (we have our own private playground).

We have loved our entire experience with this daycare. We are only leaving due to relocating outside of DC, but would recommend them to any family. While the facilities aren't as fancy or big as some of the larger centers, being at an in-home center really helped ease our family into full-time childcare. The owner and her team have always been kind, professional, and helpful and since day one have made our daughter feel welcome and loved. They are great!

My toddler has been a student at this learning family child center for almost 5 months and it has exceeded my expectations on all levels! My child’s social and communication skills and cognitive ability have excelled tremendously in the short time they have been attending. My child is absolutely in love with teachers and often asks about them on the weekends. It is never easy, sending your child off to daycare and it truly warms my heart to know they are so lovingly and safely cared for during the day. The curriculum is always full of fun and engaging activities for the kids, I especially love that they give us daily reports and photo updates/ collages of my child during the day! The facility set up is great for kids and their new playground in the back is a fan favorite. I would also like to send a special note to any reluctant parents who are nervous about sending their child to daycare because of issues napping - my child naps better here than at home! Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend this facility for your family and your precious little ones!

Our children were well cared for and enriched during their time at this daycare. Our youngest only recently transitioned out and is now in public school where she is doing very well. During her time here, she learned a lot, was socially and developmental stimulated and truly enjoyed going to “school” everyday. Her teacher went above and beyond to meet her developmental needs and provide age and developmentally appropriate instruction and the day was structured well. We were a returning family and all three of our older children had come through this daycare so we knew what to expect of the quality service we’d receive. We appreciated the way the staff maintained daily correspondence about what our child was learning, partnered with us enthusiastically in potty training and even accommodated us financially when we expressed need. We would be glad to recommend this family child care program to any family seeking a provider in the DC Metro area.

My child has been taken care of by this child care provider and her staff since she was 8 months and through the difficult times during the pandemic. She loves being at the center and is excited to be there. The staff provide updates of the kids and are great at communicating in case of any issues. This is the second child I have had at this daycare and I would recommend the care here.

The owner and her staff are tremendous with children. They love them and care for them as if they were their own. It is a small center with a limited number of children, thus providing for one on one childcare. Our daughter (and son before her) is eager each morning to go to daycare and see her friends. They have a playground in the backyard for outdoor time and incorporate cultural activities that families are interested in. It is truly a childcare center family!

I'm writing to also heartily endorse this daycare center, it is an excellent daycare option for small children. As a home based center, it has far fewer kids than larger day care centers and so has a nanny share feel to it-- but with the benefits of day care (more predictable schedule, guaranteed socialization with other kids, etc). Starting at 3 mo's my daughter was in a nanny share that we absolutely loved, but by the time she was 1.5 years, it felt like she needed to be around more kids, thus we moved her here. It was the perfect place for her to be in between nanny share and starting school. They have excellent, excellent COVID protocols, and like Lisa said, love and care for the kids as if they are their own. Lots of good activities and educational stuff and a lovely playground out back. One particular memory stands out to me--I told the owner that our family celebrates a South Asian holiday called Holi and that I'd love to come in and read a book about Holi. A few weeks later they planned a whole week of Holi activities for the kids ending with a huge Holi celebration at the end of the week-- totally surpassed my wildest expectation! Another great thing about this daycare is its convenient location -- very easy to get to from most places on Capitol Hill /H Street Corridor/ Trinidad. I could go on and on but I'll stop there!
