Village Montessori School at Bluemont is dedicated to a deep respect for the individuality of each young child’s development. ABOUT US: The curriculum of an authentic Montessori School follows the principles and guidelines established by Maria Montessori. Science and time has proven that Dr. Montessori's observations of how children learn and what is needed to provide an optimal learning environment for children in their formative years was and is correct. The peace, order, harmony, independence and joy expressed and felt in our classrooms is something that must be experienced to understand. That is why we invite perspective parents to sit in on our classrooms and see for themselves what a community of Montessori children can BE. They are amazing. Montessori is not about learning faster or being academically advanced (although those things do happen). It is about preparing a child for life. Real life. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this school. Our oldest started in the toddler program years ago. Since then we have kept him on through the elementary program and have two more daughters also at the school. The teachers treat each child with such respect and really allow each child to become who they are meant to become. They allow them to follow their curiosity into what they would like to focus on next, while making sure they are getting a full education. I love that they spend a lot of time outdoors and really instill a love of learning in each child. None of my children have ever said they don't want to go to school. In fact, they try to go even when they are sick and I insist they stay home.

Our daughters who are 9 and 11 have been in this since they were 2. I knew I’d made the right decision when we drove past the school one summer and the girls were upset that they weren’t going to school that day. I’ve watched my children become become caring and smart as well as conscious of others. They’ve learned a sense of community and enjoy helping. This school has been an amazing part of our lives. It’s given our children such a wonderful foundation and I couldn’t imagine life with it. The teachers and classrooms are all unique in a wonderful way. It’s a very loving, kind environment that teaches children to be independent.

We love this little school set in the lovely town of Bluemont. We stumbled across the school while attending the Bluemont Fair and haven't looked back. Our 4 daughters (ages 3-8) are thriving and loving every minute of their "work" at VMS. The school sets an example for the Montessori Method in how true they are to Dr. Montessori's teachings. The focus is on the whole child with all the support and direction for each child to become the adult they are meant to be. I have complete faith our daughters are not only getting an excellent education but becoming incredible individuals as well.
Response from the provider:
I love to read about our school from parents whose children have been with a significant amount of time. These comments are most encouraging and speak to me about what an insightful and committed community of parents have been attracted to VMS. Thank you.

Making the decision about where to educate our precious children is one of the most profoundly important parts of being a parent. Our goal was to have our daughter in a place where she would love being just as much as she does our home, and where she would develop academically and emotionally without the stress of repeated assessments. Our desires for her have been met and have been exceeded in ways we never dreamed they would. To explain the beauty of VMS is impossible to do in a short review and yet it's quite simple; the school is a place of peace. Some concepts are only understood when they are experienced first-hand. Come see the way the children operate like a well-oiled machine, how the teachers are keen observers who gently guide when they meet in small groups and individually with children and how they facilitate peaceful interactions between even the youngest children. Come see the carefully planned, stimulating environment which encourages creative learning and freedom of choice within a structure specific to each child. Walk the grounds and breathe in the air of the field, around the lake, in the garden and in the forest habitat beside the school. My truest, most heartfelt desire is that our country would experience this type of educational structure for the well-being of our children. Maria Montessori would be proud to know her legacy is being honored by Village Montessori School at Bluemont.
Response from the provider:
Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review of your personal impressions and experiences at VMS. I so appreciate your comment 'the school is a place of peace' this is the major part of our vision statement and if parents are able to see and feel that on our school campus we are hitting moving in harmony with what we hope to accomplish here at VMS.

My girls have been attending the Village Montessori School at Bluemont since they were in pre-K; my oldest is about to start 5th grade. This school, tucked into picturesque Bluemont, VA, has nurtured them, and their classmates, as they matured and acquired academic skills but more importantly the school has given them the environment and the language and the habits to become thoughtful, peaceful, and forgiving people. The school is premised on the Montessori method wherein the children are able to choose from a variety of activities; they work on them and through them at their own pace. The faculty provide guidance, but the orientation is towards independent work and self-guided learning. The result is a desire to explore and to learn, and that foundation doesn't go away. The VMS faculty and staff are remarkably gifted at nudging the kids towards the work that they're ready for, and at creating a peaceful, thriving environment. I would STRONGLY reccomend this school to anyone with kids that are ready for pre-K, through the elementary years.
Response from the provider:
Thank you for taking the time to think through what has made your family remain at VMS for all these years. We especially appreciate a busy Dad taking the time out of his free time to write about his experience so knowledgeably. A parent who understands the process is in the best position to explain it to others. Thank you so very much.
