St. Luke's Day School offers an environment that encourages curiosity and an awareness of the excitement of learning. St. Luke's Day School believes in the beauty, creativity and intelligence of a child's play. When singing, playing and adventuring, our students learn to have fun while participating in group activities and dynamics. The program is designed to help children develop habits of observation, questioning and listening. Children are encouraged to become aware of their feelings and to express them in an appropriate manner.
Our program, with various learning activities and playtime, prepares the children to recognize and use their intellectual and creative abilities in future learning tasks. We base our curriculum on an initiative developed by the Virginia Department of Education called Virginia's Foundation Blocks for Early Learning.
Look often into our busy, noisy, creative classrooms and see your child at work and play. Play is an important part of learning and creates the appropriate skill level for optimum learning to be achieved. Above all, we give them time to grow; time and room to explore; to experiment; and to discover. We offer them time to play… time to be a child. The children are introduced to a balanced program of interaction with friends in both teacher directed and child-directed experiences. The daily schedule includes free choice of time spent in the play area, circle activities for the group, Music class, Creative Movement class and a weekly chapel service.
We are committed to working closely with parents toward the welfare of the whole family. Parents are welcome to visit during the child's time at school after checking in with the front office.
