Heritage Learning Center is a non-profit child development program licensed by the Maryland State Department of Education. Our center adheres to all state and federal laws, and is regulated by the Maryland Office of Child Care. The center can accommodate 47 children and accepts all children aged 6 weeks to four years, regardless of sex, creed, race, ethnicity, country of origin, handicapped status, or medical condition; provided the established program meets the needs of the individual child with reasonable accommodations. OUR MISSION Our mission is to provide quality care and specialized services, serving children with individual needs in a safe, fun, healthy, and nurturing environment. OUR PHILOSOPHY The philosophy of the Heritage Learning Center is based on the belief that each child is a precious individual gifted with certain unique capacities and talents. A warm, loving environment, combined with a well-trained and creative staff, stimulates a child’s physical, social, emotional and intellectual development by learning through play and fun. Curriculum Heritage Learning Center implements the High Reach Curriculum for toddlers and preschoolers. All HighReach Learning Curriculum programs include integrated learning objective to individual lessons and track progression of skills. Aligned with state and national standards, the learning objectives integrate domains of learning to effectively meet a full range of outcomes. The following are components of the curriculum: Reaching and Relating: A Guide for Early Learning Programs provides the overarching HighReach Learning curricular approach Aligns with Guidelines for Healthy Child Development and Care of Young Children and MMSR (Maryland Model for School Readiness) Framework Standards for Pre Kindergarten and Toddlers Curriculum. Curriculum identifies skills and knowledge competencies in the following areas: language and literacy, science and mathematics, creative expression, social/emotional, physical and health development. Project based approach Sound research and theory that builds on classroom approach Developmentally appropriate HighReach Learning System’s curriculum programs have been created to help childhood educators meet the demands and challenges faced everyday providing: a fun stimulating learning environment, meeting the individual needs of children, involving and communicating with families, meeting policy and standard guidelines, etc. Our unique combination of easy-to-understand strategies and easy-to-use components help build exciting, enriching, and effective classroom experiences for children ages birth to five. All of our curriculum programs incorporate a project based approach and include: more than 120 standards based learning experiences per topic 4 step planning process, which shows how to involve children in the process by incorporating their interests and more. family communication materials to help connect families in a powerful and meaningful way engaging full color posters, conversation cards, storybooks, and more. All lesson plans are written or approved by the director on a weekly/monthly basis.
