About

Emmanuel Methodist Preschool is a Christian school that has been serving Howard County since 1978. Emmanuel was the first preschool to be accredited by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) in 2009 in Howard County. Our stability and longevity is a result of a dynamic, age-appropriate child-centered program, active parent involvement, and dedicated, experienced staff. Our Mission: We provide a safe, nurturing, fun loving environment in which children will learn and grow. We promote Christian values, such as sharing, honesty, compassion, fairness, caring, cooperation, respect, and tolerance. We provide an active, challenging hands-on curriculum that allow the children to explore and discover the world around them. Our Philosophy: Our goal is to provide an exceptional early childhood experience while preparing them for a successful transition into kindergarten. We do this by providing developmentally age-appropriate, hands-on activities and programs which foster emotional, social, physical, and spiritual development. We also provide a safe and happy atmosphere where each child is recognized as an individual person of infinite worth. We help build self-esteem and create a nurturing atmosphere where children can learn and socialize with their peers as they grow at their own pace. We encourage each child to think, reason, question, discover, and practice newly emerging skills, and we help develop language skills, such as listening, speaking, writing, and reading readiness. Curriculum: The curriculum is hands-on and allows the children to explore and discover the world around them. Our MSDE approved and researched-based curriculum incorporates whole and small group, as well as individual instruction in core areas: Social and Personal Development, Language and Literacy, Mathematical Thinking, Scientific Thinking, Social Studies, Art, and Physical Development. Enrichment: Each child participates in extra-curricular activities designed by specialized teachers to offer additional experience in art, music, physical education and storytelling, which fall outside of the normal realm of our school curriculum. Field Trips: Field trips are integrated into the curriculum and provide new experiences. We increase motivation for learning through environmental education programs, visits to nature centers, parks, visiting musicians and storytellers. Chapel: The teaching of Christian values and practices are a valuable part of our program. The children gather monthly for engaging and meaningful age-appropriate Bible based lessons and activities that include storytelling, songs, drama, crafts, movement and prayer.
