Our Story
Building Blocks Day School was started in 2007 by Mabel Espinoza who has worked with children for over 30 years. She worked in a variety of capacities ascending from a family home child care provider, to an assistant preschool teacher, then teacher and since 2007, the director/owner of Building Blocks Day School.
Her personal story is quite unique as she studied Medicine in Bolivia and graduated as a General Surgeon. She worked in pediatric care when she decided to immigrate to the US. Although it was difficult to establish herself as a physician in the US, she never lost sight of her love for caring for children. This translated to having 5 children of her own and countless children she has had the opportunity to help grow in many capacities.
Building Blocks Day School was successfully started in Falls Church, VA. She has now expanded with this satellite school located in Manassas, VA. She is now offering this region's children the opportunity to learn from a well-developed curriculum which strives in helping each child build upon their own confidence as this will help him/her be successful in kindergarten.
Curriculum
The curriculum is a Christian-based, bilingual Spanish program, that instills within each child a love for learning. Its family centered approach to learning is reflected upon the children who together with their teachers' guidance and peers present with values of respect, independence, high self-esteem, kindness, and love.
We respect the fact that children have a variety of strengths. Building Blocks program helps them grow in their individual strengths through hands-on, enjoyable, meaningful, enriching activities and experiences. We also enjoy working collaboratively with parents to realize our students potential.
Program
Building Blocks Day School offers classes for children between 2 months and 8 years old. We're open all throughout the year from Mondays to Fridays. The teacher to student class ratios 4 to 1 for infants/toddlers, 5 to 1 for the two-year-olds, and 8 to 1 for the three and 10 to 1 for four-year-olds and above. Meals are served and included in the tuition.
Due to COVID-19, we have placed safety measures following CDC Guidelines, from drop off to mealtime and even safe distances within activities. All staff members wear masks at all times. We provide hand sanitizer but also practice handwashing routines throughout the day. Parents drop off their children at the door of the school to limit the exposure of our children in the facility. We take the safety of our children as our #1 priority.
Located at the exit of 47 from Route 66, this is a convenient location to drop off your child and resume commuting to work. We are a licensed facility offering competitive tuition, helping out our working families in need during these trying times. We are also a child care subsidy program vendor where the state offers financial assistance to eligible families paying a portion of the cost.
