Gio's Garden is a center that provides an opportunity for children with special needs to work on therapeutic goals, while their families have the opportunity for a short break. Gio's Garden is open from 9am to 9pm seven days a week for families to schedule a time to drop off their child. During that time, Gio's Garden staff provide professional, developmentally supportive care in a fun, home-like group setting that encourages growth through play and socialization. Individual goals are discussed for each child during the initial family meeting. Staff try to incorporate these goals as much as possible when planning activities for the day.
Children can have up to six hours of care a week. Some families use all of their hours each week and come on a consistence basis, while others may use six hours month as they need it most. Using staff, interns and volunteers, children are typically paired up one on one with an adult, though depending on the individual children there might be 2 adults for 3 children. It costs Gio's Garden about $10 per hour per child, but due to fundraising, we are able to offer our services on a donation basis. Families choose to donate what they can towards this fee. Each family makes this determination for themselves. No fee is required for a child to attend Gio's Garden.
