OPENINGS: We have part-time openings for 2 years old and above on Thursdays and Fridays.
About Me:
Welcome to Montgomery Knolls Children's Den in Silver Spring, MD! I’m the owner of this licensed in-home daycare and preschool, and I have 20 years of child care experience as well as CPR & First-aid certifications. Like you, I’m a parent, a mom to 2 grown-up children so I have firsthand child care experience with them. As a mom myself, I understand your child care needs and concerns.
Before opening my own child care facility, I was a babysitter for various families in my neighborhood. It has always been my dream to have my own daycare as I enjoy working with kids and families. I would say my job as a child care provider is very fulfilling and rewarding because you not only get to spend your time with the children, but you also get a chance to teach them valuable skills and be part of the most important time of their development.
Philosophy:
I believe that a family-like environment helps children feel more welcome and comfortable during the transition. This kind of setting essentially offers a “home away from home” environment where your child is safe and cared for. Montgomery Knolls Children's Den offers nurturing care and quality early childhood education, and I also teach children good manners (how to respect one another, to have self-discipline, to be kind and friendly, etc.)
Curriculum:
Allowing children to learn through play is one of the most effective ways to build their socio-emotional and cognitive skills, which is why I follow the Play-based learning approach. With this approach, kids learn how to become independent, learn about themselves, their peers, and the world around them.
My program offers fun extra-curricular activities, such as singing, dancing, ABCs, reading, and drama/musical theater. I also have sensory activities for infants and toddlers. In addition to English, I also speak Amharic and upon request, I can teach your child this foreign language (though my daycare is not a bilingual program).
Program:
I am open year-round from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. I provide full-time and part-time care for infants as young as 1 week, as well as toddlers and preschoolers up to 5 years old, including children with special needs. I serve healthy snacks to all kids attending my program and this is already included in the tuition. I also accept school-age kids and offer before and after school care (my home is near Montgomery Knolls Elementary School).
To avoid any possible allergies, I maintain a peanut and tree-nut free environment. There's a sanitizer at the front door for parents and guests and also a thermometer to take temperatures.
Location:
Montgomery Knolls Children's Den is located in the Montgomery Knolls neighborhood, right off University Blvd E (route 193). My child care facility is very accessible to commuters since I’m close to the Capital Beltway (I-495) and Piney Branch Rd (route 320).
