Welcome to Windmill Little Children’s Place, our licensed daycare and preschool in Silver Spring, MD. We’re located off Windmill Ln, in the quiet residential area of Good Hope in Cloverly (near Good Hope Community Center and Dr. Charles R. Drew Elementary School). Our child care facility is located within easy access of New Hampshire Ave, the Intercounty Toll Road (MD route 200) and Columbia Pike (US route 29).
About Us:
I’m the owner and main caregiver of this home-based daycare, and my mission is to support families by promoting their child’s cognitive, social-emotional, and physical development. I have 25 years of experience in early childhood education, including almost 15 years operating my own child care facility. I hold a Master's Degree in Education, as well as CPR and First-aid certifications.
Facilities and Programs:
Our in-home daycare caters to children 6 weeks to 12 years. We offer various programs, including full-time and part-time care options for infants and toddlers, a preschool program, before and after-school care, and drop-in care to suit your family's schedule. Our facility includes a fenced playground to have fun outdoors, a multipurpose room, and access to computers. We also have a library filled with books to encourage reading.
Hours of Operation: Our daycare opens at 7:00 am and closes at 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. We provide consistent care year-round to meet your family's needs, including a fun summer camp.
Languages and Extra-Curricular Activities: We believe in a well-rounded education and offer extra-curricular activities such as sports, music, arts, and dance, helping children develop their physical, creative, and social skills while having fun. In addition to English, we can introduce Urdu and Hindi, providing an opportunity for children to explore different cultures and languages.
Meals and Snacks: We prioritize nutrition and offer meals and snacks as part of our services. Lunch is available for a fee, and snacks are included in the tuition. Our environment is peanut-free and tree-nut free, ensuring the safety of all children.
Potty Training: We understand the significance of potty training and offer support during this important milestone. Success in potty training depends on our collaborative efforts. We recommend sending your child in easy-to-wear clothing and providing changes of clothing during this time.
Our Approach:
Philosophy: At Windmill Little Children’s Place, we believe that children thrive in an environment that nurtures their physical well-being and encourages independence and confidence. We provide a play-based and academic learning philosophy, ensuring that your child receives a well-rounded education. Children learn through play; therefore, we provide a variety of experiences to expand their cognitive thinking. We provide needed time to explore, and the opportunity to express their creativity. We also believe in creating an atmosphere of unconditional love and respect.
Guidance: Our approach to guidance is rooted in courtesy, respect, and patience. We focus on redirecting younger children and utilizing time-outs for older children when necessary. We maintain a strict no corporal punishment policy and no child will be hit, spanked, or otherwise intimidated. For serious matters, we always work with parents to determine the best course of action.
Inclusive environment: Our daycare is inclusive, accommodating children of all abilities, and fostering interaction and support among all. We understand our responsibility as a caregiver and will provide reasonable accommodation for children of all abilities and special needs.
Daily Activities:
Our daily schedule includes age-appropriate activities that are flexible to cater to each child's unique needs and interests. We offer outdoor play, crafts, stories, instruction, and naps, all adjusted to your child's age. Chores, such as picking up, putting dishes in the dishwasher, helping to sort laundry will likely be a part of the day.
For infants and toddlers who are too young to communicate with you about their day, a daily report sheet will be sent home. For preschoolers, we provide preschool curriculum, developing large and small motor skills. We do many arts and crafts where the focus is on the process, not the product. Free play is also an important part of a child's early years. It is here that they learn social skills that will be needed for the rest of their lives.
Thank you for reading our profile! We look forward to welcoming your child into our care and providing them with the love they deserve.
