About

The Fairfax Academy was established in March of 1977 as a private institution of early learning and development where young children of all backgrounds, races, and ethnic heritages could learn and grow together. Mrs. Norma Brill founded the Fairfax Academy. Her first school, Teeny Weeny Day Nursery was established in 1971 when women rapidly joined the workforce and needed quality care for their children. With three students, Mrs. Brill’s vision of affordable, quality preschools designed for the working family began. The Fairfax Academy remains a family owned and operated business with a commitment to provide a sage, nurturing, environment in a family like atmosphere. An experienced team of caring administrators, teachers, and support staff work tirelessly to promote Mrs. Brill’s vision. Philosophy "Children are the resources of the future and our most precious legacy. Their education and development are the most important tasks we can undertake.” The complicated and stressful times in which we live demand that we make special efforts to provide children with a safe, yet stimulating environment in which to spend their formative years. The Fairfax Academy has created a setting in which your child will receive both love and learning at the hands of dedicated professionals who have been carefully chosen on the basis of their proficiency in early childhood education and their demonstrated caring for young children. The development of the whole child – physically, emotionally, socially, intellectually, and psychologically are essential components to an early childhood experience. We believe each child is a precious gift and we must provide an atmosphere in which he or she can grow and develop into a happy, well-adjusted child, and productive adult. While your preschooler is a student at The Fairfax Academy he or she will be encouraged to improve morally, intellectually as well as in the area of self-discipline. Preventative discipline is the main goal of our teachers. Each classroom establishes a caring community. It is a place where children feel at home. Teachers interact and observe children in order to prevent issues from arising. The school utilizes Dr. Becky Bailey’s Loving Guidance Principals for classroom management school wide. Each classroom establishes their class rules. As part of their social development all children are taught the concepts of taking turns, listening, using manners, respecting each other, and how to make good decisions. When behavioral situations arise, teachers redirect children. Teachers guide children in making good decisions, motivate them by enlisting their help within the class/school community, and help them understand their mistakes when they occur. The Fairfax Academy DOES NOT use or condone any type of corporal/physical punishment (spanking, hitting, etc.). Everything you always loved about summer is waiting for your child at the Fairfax Academy’s summer program which is in session from mid-June through the end of August. Especially designed with the younger child in mind, the summer program utilizes the school’s air conditioned classrooms, outdoor tents, large playgrounds, and an arts and crafts area to provide an inviting setting for a fun-filled semester. On campus, children enjoy games, sports, arts and crafts, cookouts, water play m, story times, and a variety of other age appropriate activities. Complimenting these good times are a variety of field trips including bowling, nature hikes, museum trips, putt putt golf, and swimming at nearby pools. All day trips are scheduled for those children who have completed Kindergarten. To make the summer unique, each year's program has a special theme. "A Story Book Adventure", and "Summer Under the Big Top" have been past favorites. Children complete craft projects, learning and recreational activities which center around the weekly theme.
