For 50 years Reston's Lake Anne Nursery Kindergarten (LANK) has had a rich tradition of providing a premier preschool experience in the Northern Virginia community.
A child's early childhood experience is the foundation for the years ahead. At LANK we strive to create a setting in which children feel welcome and safe. Education at LANK is a joyful journey filled with success and validation. Our play-based curriculum encourages exploration and creative thinking while providing the skills children need to succeed in elementary school and beyond.
LANK has a rich tradition of providing a premier preschool experience in the Northern Virginia community. Innovative instructional techniques are paired with a strong curriculum, giving LANK children a solid foundation upon which to build all their future years of education. Truly, LANK is a place, “Where Education Begins.”
Here you will find information about our educational philosophy, as well as details about our instructional and enrichment programs. You will also be able to view our volunteer and giving opportunities, and get a feel for LANK’s inviting atmosphere and involved parent community.
If you are a prospective LANK family, we invite you to visit our school. Children at LANK are encouraged to explore, investigate and learn with experienced professionals who understand the importance of early education. We offer Open House sessions where you can observe our classes in action, tour the school and meet our teachers and directors. We hope you can join us for one of these.
Curriculum development and planning are a very important part of LANK’s success. Specific goals and objectives have been developed by our experienced staff for each of the programs offered. These goals and objectives are refined and modified each year to meet the needs of our current students.
Teachers meet monthly to plan curriculum and daily projects for each program. Monthly calendars are given to all parents so they may support what is happening at school and be aware of what their children are doing on a day-to-day basis.
Though LANK's preschoolers do not take field trips, numerous special programs and presentations are brought to LANK for curriculum enrichment. In recent years, these events have included Reptiles Alive!, Dino-Rock, and the Bob Brown puppets. These special events are coordinated with curriculum topics that have been studied on every level, school-wide.
LANK also works with a number of specialists who bring their expertise to each class. Depending on their developmental level, the preschool and Kindergarten groups may participate in music, gymnastics, Spanish or a combination of these activities each week.
Summer camp at LANK places great emphasis on outside activities as well as an in-depth exploration of the chosen camp theme. In the past, children have been on Geo-Safaris, explored various science topics, and have delved into the best of children’s literature. We’re always very excited to see what our LANK camp kids are going to explore next!
Summer camp themes and fees are announced during the second half of the school year. Current LANK children having priority placement.
