Montgomery Child Care Association strives to provide the highest quality child care and play-based education for children in Montgomery County, Maryland; professional training for child care providers; and advocacy for affordable, quality child care for families of all income levels, and for better training, pay and benefits for child care professionals.
Reflecting the rich diversity of our county, the families of Montgomery Child Care Association represent all income levels and ethnic groups. But we have our roots in President Lyndon Johnson's War on Poverty.
In the 1960's, as a Community Action Project of the War on Poverty, a grassroots group of volunteers began planning child care programs for low income families in Montgomery County, Maryland. In 1966 the group incorporated, and in 1968 we opened our first child care center, at Mt. Zion Church in Olney. Other centers quickly followed, and MCCA now cares for over 1000 children at 15 locations throughout the county.
