We have created a unique place to honor your child’s creativity with bright colors, open spaces and lots of activities that stimulate their natural curiosity and keep them asking for more; this is how you lay the foundation for everything else.
SKC was developed by two educational veterans who identified a gap in the landscape of early education centers in Prince George’s County. SKC set out to fill that void by providing parents with an option for a safe, nurturing environment and the academic foundation needed for success.
Since its inception, SKC has graduated students who not only excelled during their first year of kindergarten, but many were tested and placed in advanced classes, because of the foundation they received here.
We use the A Beka® curriculum, a phonics-based Christian curriculum which is dedicated to providing quality education from a Christian perspective. A Beka® skilled researchers and writers do not paraphrase progressive education textbooks and add Biblical principles; they do primary research in every subject and look at the subject from God’s point of view.
The Phonics approach defines the set of relationships between written letters and the spoken sounds that those letters represent. Closely related to phonics is “phonemic awareness," a child’s understanding of the idea that spoken words can be broken down into constituent sounds.
Educational researchers have concluded that systematic phonics instruction within a broad literacy curriculum appears to have a greater effect on children’s progress in reading than whole language or whole word approaches. A Beka® publications are built on these same principles and are known for success in early child learners.
Here at SKC we use the MSDE state approved curriculum for infants and toddlers which is The Creative Curriculum® for Infants, Toddlers & Twos. This curriculum helps teachers appreciate and find joy in the everyday discoveries that delight a child; the sound a rattle makes, the leaves blowing in circles by the wind, the ball that unexpectedly rolls across a child’s path, the ants marching across the pavement. It is a comprehensive curriculum that helps teachers achieve the very best program for children under three.
If the interactions children have are nurturing, consistent, and loving, and the experiences they have are appropriately challenging, then infants, toddlers, and twos grow and flourish. In such an environment, children learn to trust and joyfully explore their surroundings, making discoveries and developing a sense of themselves as competent learners and caring human beings.
