About

Youth and children experience a vibrant worship, formation and fellowship life at The Falls Church Episcopal Nursery The Nursery at The Falls Church is for infants and children up to age 3. It is staffed by Karin and Josephine, two long-time team members at our church. The Nursery is open every Sunday from 8:45 am to 12:15 pm. The Nursery is located downstairs in Room 126. From the Upper Narthex, go down the stairs or the elevator and the Nursery will be just a few steps down the hall. Cherub & Children's Chapel During worship, "cherubs" (age 4 years or younger) and children (age 5 years or more) are invited to chapel after the first reading of Scripture during all services. Lasting 30 minutes, chapel follows the lectionary and parallels the main service in an age appropriate manner. Cherubs and children return to their parents in time for the passing of the peace and communion. On the first two Sundays of the month, cherubs and children have separate, age-appropriate chapels. On the remaining Sundays of the month, the cherubs “build” an altar and sanctuary space with small-scale pieces. When ready, they ring the “church bell” and invite the children into their space for a short liturgy! Many pre-teens and teens also join in, acting as “big brothers and sisters.” The 6th-12th graders may also serve as acolyte crucifer-servers for the main worship service. Every month or so, the cherub and children sing a song for the Offertory! The Kindergarten Program is offered to all children who turn five before September 30. The curriculum in this class is age appropriate and prepares children for first grade in public and private schools. This program satisfies, at a minimum, all the Standards of Learning for Kindergarten in the State of Virginia. The Kindergarten curriculum is child-centered and project oriented. It allows for each child to develop uniquely into a “Can-Do” learner in a secure and nurturing atmosphere. Spanish class is offered twice a week. This class meets from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday. The preschool classes are available for children ages two years through four years. All four year old classes prepare children for a positive Kindergarten experience. Classes begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 12:00 p.m., with the exception of the 5 Day 4 Year-old Extended Day class which meets from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Children in this class participate in a Spanish class twice a week. Children must turn the appropriate age for the desired class no later than September 30. Students in the three-year-old classes and older must be toilet trained. Children in this program routinely turn five years old after September 30 and before December 31 of the same calendar year. Students whose birthdays fall outside the stated parameters may apply to this program at the discretion of the director. Participation in all classroom projects and activities are guided by individual skills and abilities and the curriculum is appropriately challenging. Children will participate in an extended-day that will include a Spanish class twice a week. Classes meet from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Our PMO program offers a nurturing environment for toddlers encountering their first peer group experiences. This program is available for children ages eighteen months through twenty-three months of age and meets from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday of each week.
